Drinking local at Florida Cane Distillery in Ybor City

There are some really cool places in Tampa Bay and it’s virtually an endless adventure here.

A friend and I visited the The Florida Cane Distillery in Ybor City Historic District recently and tasted some of their spirits, where they make Florida Cane vodka, Tamiami Gin, Sunshine Moonshine and Red Drum Whiskey. (Which at first I thought was “Red Rum” from The Shining.  It’s not.)

(See more about the distillery, its owners and history  here. )

We loved their little vodka serving glasses, which looked like mini flute champagne glasses. We saw that you can buy these at Ikea.

The special from Groupon that day included a bottle of vodka and a branded Tervis tumbler.

I bought the Plant City Strawberry vodka.

One of the stills.

Red Drum Whiskey. Not  “Red Rum” whiskey.

Although guests can taste several different flavors (more than enough) we wanted to get a cocktail that featured the vodka.

The owner told us of a few local places where we could do that, which included  Rock Brothers Brewery, just across the street.

We loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked in.

They had three cocktails to choose from, and we both chose the Bramble On cocktail.

We found the the bartenders very friendly, and loved that they sang and danced to Supertramp this day, which made our day.    Apparently this bar is owned by rock musicians. See their story here.

My pretty friend!

See you Ybor! We’ll be back!
